Some Great Singing Tips!

Singing has been an amazing form of communication throughout the years. It is part of the universal language of music. You may be looking for a way to enhance your singing. Read ahead for some great singing tips and maybe you’ll think of a few more tips of your own.

One of the most fundamental tips you can incorporate into your singing: warm-ups. Vocal warm ups are the key to having the best singing tone possible and also to prevent injury to your delicate vocal chords and muscles that are used in singing. Start with some light humming. Don’t strain your voice while doing this. Simply hum one note and go from soft to loud (within reason) and then from loud to soft. Then, go from your lowest note (again, without strain) to your highest, then back down to your lowest. From there you can do open-mouth notes. See how long you can hold a note for. All of these things can help warm up your vocal chords to improve your overall tone and to prevent injury. Doing this tips the scales in your favour in terms of avoiding injury to the vocal chords.

Singing tips only go as far as you do. Make sure to incorporate them into your everyday practice. Write these tips down and share the tips with other singers. They may have some tips for you too!

Another one of the tips for great singing: posture! Did you know that you can drastically improve your singing power by standing up straight? If you sit to sing, you can also straighten your back. Doing this not only improves your singing tone, it also allows you to hold more air for singing. Many singers unknowingly slouch while singing. You may need to raise your microphone a little higher and tilt it downward towards your mouth so that you can have the best posture possible.

Smile! Many tips are given but not many remind singers to smile! Of course, it’s not always appropriate to smile based on the song, but at least smile between songs to make a sure-fire connection with your audience. Audiences will respond better to each and every song you sing if they feel a connection to you and the music you are presenting.

If you are a stage performer or public performer without a microphone, you need to think about projection. More tips talk about this idea now and there’s a good reason for it. Singers often forget about projection and it greatly reduces the performance they are doing. Projection is basically the ability for the voice to carry over long distances. Make sure you do some warm-ups before trying projection exercises. You can put your hand directly in front of your mouth and sing a few bars. Could you feel your breath on your hand? If you are projecting properly, you will feel it. Make sure not to strain your vocal chords too much while doing this. Another good exercise is to stand in front of a window and look at the farthest thing away that you can see. Now, take a deep breath and hold one note. Try to make it so loud that someone standing at the farthest thing away that you can see would hear it. It’s tips like this that will help your singing grow and get you a job in singing if you want to be a stage or public singer.
