An Introduction to Singing

Music. Something that we love, hear and enjoy everyday. Made by a mixture of beautiful sounds coming from a wide variety of instruments. We hear the loud beating of the drums, the wailing, screaming guitar, the low thunderous, or soft soothing bass, the beautiful sounds from the magical flute, and much much more..

But one of the most beautiful instrument that we have, is our own voice. The small little thing in our throat, our very own wind instrument, capable of many feats of wonder.

It is the only instrument:

• whose quality of sound and the name of the instrument are both identified by the same
word (voice)
• that must be built by its owner
• whose structure is mostly hidden in the human body
• that contains within itself not one, but three separate mechanisms
• that is constructed of muscle, cartilage and bone
• whose component parts perform many different functions that are unrelated to singing
• that can produce words
• that is capable of developing either good or bad habits
• whose muscular components react to their environment
• that is directly connected to a brain
• that is naturally imitative — in the sense that, with the aid of hearing, the voice will
respond culturally in a recognizable fashion

The voice is the only instrument that is identified by the same word used to describe its sound.

The voice is the one instrument that tells the listener, the audience, the world, how you sound like. From the voice you can express feelings of happiness, sadness, anger, frustration and more.

It can do wondrous feats when singing. With such a small, fragile instrument, listen to how Celine Dion works her instrument, or even how rockers like David Coverdale does his stuff. If you have heard death metal before, ever wonder how those evil sounding growls came from?

ALL FROM THE SAME INSTRUMENT EVERYONE HAVE. THE VOICE.

You can even be in group which comprises of ONLY vocals, and you can already have a very beautiful sounding orchestra coming from the little thing inside of us, the voice. (Youtube: The Voca People)

Here at SingingHow, I share with you some tips, techniques and advice on how to work that instrument of yours into a strong, healthy, beautiful sounding voice that will awe people around you, brings joy to your listeners, share your grief to the audience, or even bring them to magical places.

All with your voice.
